Teacher Grants

Grants for Music Teachers

Salida Aspen Concerts is offering new grants for calendar year 2024 to music teachers of music lessons to pupils K-12 grades living within the Salida, Buena Vista, Cotopaxi or Custer County school district boundaries.

We hope that by providing extra funds to music teachers, more students in these communities will be encouraged to pursue music.

2024 grant applications are closed. The next cycle of applications will open in February 2025.

Grant Conditions and Requirements

Number of Grants Available; Amount of Grant; Method of Awarding Grants:

Grants for 2024 will be awarded to eligible teachers who apply between February 1 and April 30 , 2024, and meet grant qualifications below. A grant is awarded for the period of the calendar year in which it is awarded, in consideration of the fact that many teachers of students K-12 teach by semester and do not have students in the summer.

 Permissible Uses of Grant Funds:

Grant funds may be used at the teacher’s reasonable discretion for one or more of the following:
- To purchase music to be given to the teacher's music students.
- To reduce the cost of music lessons for one or more music students taking lessons from the teacher. SAC recommends that students pay at least a minimal amount of the cost so that they and their parents will be invested.
- To provide extra lessons or tutoring for the teacher’s music students who are entering competitions or have upcoming performances.
- To provide enriching musical experiences and activities (for examples, opportunities to attend concerts or music workshops) in the student's medium (instrument or voice).
- To assist in the upkeep of an instrument (reeds, drumsticks, pitch pipes, etc.)

Qualifications of Grantees:

To be considered eligible for the grant, a teacher must be a music teacher, state the means by which the teacher acquires students (such as advertising materials), must reside within the Salida, Buena Vista, Cotopaxi, or Custer County school district boundaries, must have any required city or county licenses, and must file an annual report to SAC by the deadline indicated below.

Grants may be awarded to previous recipients in subsequent years, still on a first come-first granted basis, as long as the recipient complied with all grant requirements pertaining to previous grants awarded.

Reporting Requirements:

Teachers awarded grants are required to file an annual report with the SAC Board by December 31st of the grant year accounting for how the grant money was used, along with appropriate supporting documentation (e.g., receipts for purchases made with grant funds). In addition to using this information to satisfy grant conditions, SAC may also use this information for publicity purposes (without disclosing the names of students and teachers, unless they consent).
