Two $1000 ENCORE scholarships will be awarded again this year 2010 to deserving high school graduates in Chaffee County, or to students from Chaffee County already studying music in college. The deadline for applications to be submitted is May 1.

Students must fill out the application and write about their musical activities and interests in a one-page essay and submit two references, one of which could be their music teacher. Proof of graduation from high school or home school in Chaffee County, or enrollment in an institution of higher learning, also is required.

Salida Concerts Inc. started the scholarship program 11 years ago to encourage talented students to pursue musical careers. Scholarships are funded out of the total charitable contributions and advertising dollars raised each year to produce the Salida Aspen Concerts series in Salida and Buena Vista.
